Pupil Premium


Waltham Toll Bar Academy receives additional funding, pupil premium, to support those students who qualify using DfE criteria, including those students entitled to FSM during the last 6 years.

The Academy will primarily focus the Pupil Premium funding to accelerate progress and 'narrow the gap' for disadvantaged students.

In 2016-2017 the Academy received £316,750 of Pupil Premium Funding.

In 2017-2018 the Academy received £338,435 for Pupil Premium Funding.

In 2018-2019 the Academy received £290,785 for Pupil Premium Funding.

In 2019-2020 the Academy received £320,650 for Pupil Premium Funding.

The range of provision includes:

  • Reduced class sizes to improve opportunities and outcomes.
  • One to one/ small group teaching for some students to support progress in English and Maths.
  • Weekend and holiday revision classes.
  • Targeted intervention during the Academy day.
  • Increased number of Teaching Assistants for specific in class support.
  • Increased support to address shortfalls in reading and basic numeracy.
  • Increased Pastoral support for vulnerable students.
  • Allocation of a key worker to track progress and identify need.
  • Access to some curriculum based additional provision, e.g. music tuition.

The impact of Pupil Premium from Year 7 to Year 11 for 2019-2020 was:

  • 46% of disadvantaged students achieved English and Maths at grade 5 or above
  • Progress 8 score of 0.62
  • Attainment 8 score of 52.20
  • Progress 8 score English of 0.34
  • Progress 8 score Maths of 0.63
